USoft Benchmark in Action

• Recorder
  Once you have installed and started USoft Benchmark, you can start recording test procedures, or have them generated by the Wizard. These procedures consist of one or more steps, where each step is a USoft Developer action (logical event).

• Test Database
  Procedures can either be run straightaway, or you can manually edit them first. For example, you may want to define checks. Procedure checks are written in the form of SQL statements that must evaluate to true or false. Step checks, on the other hand, validate that controls have certain properties. Note checks provide cues for the human tester (e.g. Is the Accounts Receivable field black?) Other editing possibilities are nesting a procedure as a step in another procedure, changing the order in which steps are performed, changing the target control at which steps are performed, or specifying loops (repeat a step 10 times, or until a certain condition is met).

• Player
  Once you are fully satisfied with a test procedure, you can run it using the Player. There are optional settings for making a profile of the test procedure, changing the speed with which the test is run, and specifying whether USoft Benchmark should stop on errors. The results of playing a test can be inspected in the logfile.

• Profiler
  Profiles can be made as part of playing a test, or separately via the Profiler. A profile provides a wealth of information on which SQL statements were fired because of which reasons, because of which constraints, etc. This information can be used to tune your implementation of the business logic. The Profiler even provides hints for optimizing your application's client-server capacities.

• Tracer
  Finally, USoft Benchmark has a Tracer that enables you to visually trace the SQL statements that are fired while you are interacting with the application.
